Mission 4 Nutrition™ New Shoes = Going Outside To Play!

Any Amount of Activity is Better than No Activity At All.  Children by Nature want to go outside and play.  Won't you let them?

Children Playing                  Go Out and Play                   Adult playing with Children

Mission 4 Nutrition’s mission is strictly what it’s name states “We have a Mission 4 Nutrition” for our Kids sakes.  One of the primary reasons we provide athletic shoes to children is because many of them do not have proper footwear to play outdoors to get more physically active. Did you know that 38% of 4th graders are overweight?

With our "Go Outside and Play" program, we encourage parents to ask their children to go outside and play so they can become more active while having fun and doing what children dod best - Go outside and play!

We deal with the issue of food with the "You Can Eat This But Don't Eat That" Program.  Click here for exciting and informative information on how to make eating right fun just be making better choices.  Knowledge is Power!

Host a Walkathon With Shoes4School to Bring Awareness To Childhood Obesity.  Click here for more information.

See the video below to see why we have to intervene in our Children's lives.

An Overweight and Obesity Crisis
Over the past few decades, the prevalence of obesity has been on the rise across the United States. Texas is no exception. In fact, Texas now faces an overweight and obesity crisis. The statistics are alarming:

  • In 2007, approximately 66 percent of Texas adults were overweight or obese (1)
  • 19.1 percent of Texas children 10 to 17 years old are obese (2)
  • 42 percent for fourth-graders, 39 percent for eighth-graders and 36 percent for eleventh-graders are overweight and/or obese according to a study conducted in 2004-2005 (3)
  • 53.5 percent of Texans do not get the recommended amount of daily physical exercise (1)
  • An overweight adolescent has a 70 percent chance of becoming an overweight or obese adult (4)
  • As a person becomes overweight or obese, he or she is at greater risk for a variety of health problems: heart disease, diabetes, cancer, asthma, arthritis, and depression (4)
  • A weight gain of 11 to 18 pounds increases a person's risk of developing type 2 diabetes to twice that of individuals who have not gained weight (4)
  • Based on current trends, 75 percent of Texas adults could be overweight or obese by 2040, and the associated costs could quadruple from $10.1 billion in 2001 to as high as $39 billion in 2040 (5)

One of the most effective ways to combat the onset of overweight or obesity related illnesses is through regular physical activity. At an individual level, “physical activity contributes to weight loss, especially when it is combined with calorie reduction, [and] regular physical activity is extremely helpful for the prevention of overweight and obesity.” (4)

We must take action now to reverse these trends and improve our health and the health of our fellow citizens.
